Our second short movie in the Groundswell series starts out as a portrait of a community bike ride and picnic organized by two friends in response to a rash of gang-related shootings in Portland, Oregon. It becomes a portrait of a community grappling with gentrification and racism—far from the stereotype of a bicycle-friendly city of young creative professionals Portland presents to the world.
– Can bike advocacy ever truly be only about bikes?
– What are the conversations you have had or heard about race and bicycling?
– How can the focus on police enforcement in some bicycle advocacy (including some Vision Zero initiatives) be problematic?
